Eddie Alvarez is an American mixed martial artist. He fights for ONE Championship. He is nicknamed “The Underground King.”

He was born in Philadelphia, the son of Lillian and Louis Alvarez. His brother, Albert, has also been a mixed martial artist. Growing up in Kensington, he built a reputation on the street as a tough street fighter beating up much larger opponents.

Eddie took his street fighting skills to MMA, and combined them with conventional MMA training at the American Top Team in Florida. He made a name for himself in Japan, fighting in the Pride organization and other small organizations in the U.S. Because of his victories outside of the UFC, he received his nickname The Underground King, prior to winning the UFC lightweight championship belt in July 2016.

Eddie was signed to the Bellator Fighting Championships because of his Hispanic heritage and possible cross-over appeal. However, he is unable to speak Spanish.

Eddie is married to Jamie, with whom he has four children.
