William Jackson Harper is an American actor and playwright. He has appeared in the films Paterson, They Remain, Lost Holiday, Midsommar, Dark Waters, We Broke Up, Landscape with Invisible Hand, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and on the shows The Good Place and The Resort. He wrote the play Travisville.

He uses his mother’s maiden name Jackson for his stage middle name. He was raised in Garland, Texas.

William’s paternal grandmother is Cecelia Ann Dawson (the daughter of George Dawson and Elzenia Arnold). Cecelia was born in Texas. George learned to read at the age of 98, and was known as “America’s favorite poster child for literacy.” He wrote the autobiography Life Is So Good (2000). George was the son of Harrison Dawson and Mattie Nichols.

William’s maternal grandfather is named Leroy Jackson.

William’s maternal grandmother is named Lee Pearl/Pervis Williams.
