Frank Adamo is an American doctor honored for his medical services during World War II. He attained the rank of lieutenant colonel and received the Order of North Star Boi Tinh for his service. Adamo was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. When he was a teenager, he went to work rolling cigars. After the cigar strike in 1910, he moved to Chicago and continued his education, then enrolled at the Chicago College of Medicine and Surgery. He returned to Tampa in 1919 for an internship and joined the Army Reserve in 1923. Adamo went into active duty in 1940 and served in the Philippines as a surgeon. After the Japanese attack on Bataan, Adamo arrived in Corregidor, where he rescued many victims. Many patients suffer from necrosis. Amputation is an accepted treatment, but Adamo knows that the gangrene bacillus cannot survive if exposed to oxygen, so he tried to open the wounds and apply sulfa drugs, watering in many hour by hydrogen peroxide.
