Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel is an American thief who has been the driving force behind the growth of the Las Vegas Strip. Not only was Siegel an influence in the Jewish crowd, but along with his friend and accomplice Meyer Lansky, also had considerable influence in the Italian-American Mafia and the Italian-Jewish National Crime Organization. Described as handsome and charismatic, he became one of the first famous gangsters. Siegel is one of the founders and directors of Murder, Inc. and become a crook during the blackout period. After the passage of Amendment 21, which lifted the ban in 1933, he turned to gambling. In 1936, he left New York and moved to California. His time as a bandit during this period was primarily assassin and muscular, as he was noted for his strength with guns and violence. In 1941, Siegel was tried for the murder of Harry Greenberg's accomplices. He was acquitted in 1942 .
