Mark William Lanegan is an American singer, songwriter and musician. He is known for his sane voice, described as "prickly like a three-day beard but as supple and soft as a moccasin" and has been compared to Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. Lanegan began his music career in 1984 as moderator of psychedelic grunge band Screaming Trees, for which he released seven studio albums and five EPs before going their separate ways in 2000. Their first solo studio album, The Winding Sheet, in 1990. Since then he has released 10 more solo albums and received critical recognition, but with moderate commercial success. After the end of Screaming Trees, he became a regular contributor to Queens of the Stone Age and appeared on their albums R-Ranking, Songs for the Deaf, Lullaby for the Deaf, Era Vulgaris and ... Like Clockwork.
Alt-rock singer best known as the frontman for the grunge band Screaming Trees. As a solo performer, he has released several CDs, including"Whiskey for the Holy Ghost" in 1994.
