Christopher Anthony John Martin is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and philanthropist. He is the lead vocalist, lead musician and co-founder of the rock band Coldplay. Born in Exeter, Devon, Martin attended University College London, where he formed a rock band with Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion in 1996 called Starfish, eventually renamed Coldplay in 1998. Martin , along with other members of Coldplay, known worldwide for the release of the band's song "Yellow" in 2000, the song also earned the band its first Grammy Award nomination for a Song best rock. The group went on to receive awards for their subsequent albums including A Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva la Vida, winning a Grammy award for both and a Brit award for their previous album. Coldplay has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling musical artists in the world.

Coldplay's breakthrough debut album, Parachutes, was published in 2000, and he is the band's founder. The band has won eight Grammy Awards in total. He's also worked as a solo artist, collaborating with Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, Kanye West, and Jay-Z, among others.
